BlackBerry Workspaces (WatchDox) review

Blackberry Workspaces is a modern solution for remote collaboration. The provider was founded in 1984, has its headquarters in Waterloo, Canada, and operates in 30 countries. Some other interesting facts are that the company works with 45 of the Fortune 100, all 7 of the G7, and 18 of the G20.

Blackberry secure workspace isn’t the only service provided. The company also has multiple products and solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), remote collaboration, automotive software, logistics tracking, secure communication, endpoint management, and many others. All services are provided in nearly a dozen languages, including English, German, Spanish, and French.

Formerly known as WatchDox by Blackberry, Blackberry Workspaces does not have a standard pricing plan. Users should contact a sales representative for a customized quote. Additionally, the company offers a free trial and demo version of its software.

Blackberry WatchDox is suitable for both small businesses and large enterprises. However, based on several user reviews, it appears that their services may be considered somewhat expensive for smaller companies.

Deployment

Blackberry’s WatchDox data room is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux for desktops, and through a web-based application for all other devices. Due to secure and auditable data aggregation, WatchDox VDR is even available without an active internet connection.

The provider uses Awingu, a browser-based workspace that lets users access BlackBerry’s applications and services from a single screen. You can use this tool to access your files quickly in SharePoint, create a new file in Office 365, or calculate income via Finance Explorer. It is a fast and secure way to collaborate online.

User WatchDox apps can incorporate dozens of integrations with the most popular business software and solutions. The basic options include Microsoft Office programs, OneDrive, and Salesforce. Although the provider does not publish a full list of integrations, a sales representative will be happy to help.

WatchDox for Windows, macOS, and the web-based version support several customization options. Users can edit the “Name” and “Logo” areas, set personalized links for Privacy Policy and other buttons, and create a unique BlackBerry Workspaces subdomain. Additionally, users can configure emails, ICAP, and system logs.

Support

At WatchDox, BlackBerry’s technical support team is available 24/7/365. Users can contact a specialist via a mobile phone  or the support case page from within their account. However, note that phone support is only available for companies subscribing to Premium Support — each country has a dedicated contact number.

BlackBerry has many products and services. Therefore, the company has worked hard to create detailed user manuals and documentation to help reduce the workload for their in-house support team. These materials allow users to troubleshoot and resolve most issues on their own. For example, the Workspaces documentation includes explanations regarding the servers, apps, SDK, advanced deployment features, and BlackBerry UEM plug-in.

Customers can also access BlackBerry’s technical training, which includes courses covering UES, UES Cloud, and UEM. There is instructor-led training, web-based training, and knowledge assessment. The detailed descriptions for each course section also detail the required time to complete the material.

BlackBerry even has a YouTube channel with a dedicated playlist for the Workspaces product. Users can also find various other videos covering insightful topics and technical details related to the company’s software. There is also a Knowledge Base on the company’s website with over 800 helpful articles and materials.

Security

BlackBerry’s Workspaces uses multiple security layers to provide maximum protection for user data and confidential information. Here are some of the features of the provider’s VDRs:

  • AES-certified 256-bit encryption
  • GDPR compliance
  • HIPAA
  • 2FA
  • SSO

The provider uses AI-powered security across all endpoints, constantly monitoring all activity and detecting threats before they do damage. Additionally, their Zero Trust framework is applied, which requires all users to be authenticated, authorized, and constantly validated to ensure data security.

On the user level, there are standard access controls that grant users different roles and permissions. Files are protected with features including dynamic watermarking, screen capture protection, and forwarding and printing restrictions.

BlackBerry Workspaces also has a rapid ransomware recovery feature. If ransomware threatens your enterprise’s data, it may cause serious problems. To help prevent a major disruption, the provider applies effective recovery tools that let administrators freeze hacked accounts, selectively block infected files, and seamlessly roll back to an older version of the data room.

As of 2022, Blackberry’s Workspaces solution hasn’t experienced any data breaches or hacks. This means that the product has a high degree of security and can protect your confidential data with ease.
