FirmRoom Data Room review

Established in 2012, FirmRoom is a virtual data room solution for secure data storage and sharing. FirmRoom’s basic, but effective set of functions makes it an attractive pricing option for companies with fewer usage needs, and is an ideal solution for small and medium enterprises.

FirmRoom is a solid tool for the whole M&A lifecycle, from planning to due diligence to signing the deal. It can also be a cost-effective solution for periodical or recurring data-intensive tasks, such as company audits or onboarding and training new staff.

Based entirely on the cloud and deployed in a single web-based format, FirmRoom provides an easy and intuitive virtual data room, unlimited storage, and all the obligatory functionalities such as bulk uploads and downloads, data analytics, instant sharing with multiple users, and secure file viewing and editing.

The FirmRoom pricing is flexible. There is a 30-day free trial version available, with two different fixed-price plans available either monthly or yearly, plus a custom option that can be tailored to your needs.

Although at present it has a single office in Chicago, the company still boasts a sizable position in the domestic market — as well as a modest international presence. Outside the US, their service is available in Australia, Canada, India, the UK, the Philippines, Brazil, New Zealand, and Mexico.

FirmRoom is cloud-based, with a data center powered by Amazon’s leading-edge AWS cloud storage. The data room is also web-based, meaning it works on your browser, with no downloads needed. While it doesn’t feature dedicated apps for Android/iOS operating systems, the platform can be easily accessed on the browser in any device.

Built for flexibility and ease of deployment, FirmRoom can also be integrated with your company’s IT solutions. That includes easy integration with Slack and Microsoft Office.

  • Only web-based

The FirmRoom virtual data room only offers customer support in English. A live representative of the FirmRoom support team can be reached 24/7 through phone, email, or a live chat tool on the official website.

FirmRoom also provides a free, on-request demo of how the platform works. And for those less used to VDR technology, the provider offers help with onboarding new users.

Security and privacy are a pillar of the FirmRoom VDR software. The service is certified with the SOC-2 and ISO 27001 seals of quality. It’s also compliant with relevant data protection legislation, including HIPAA, FINRA, and SEC.

Among the main security functionalities deployed by FirmRoom, you have:

  • Multiple-factor authentication: A key security measure, preventing maliciou actors from accessing user accounts even if in possession of a user’s login credentials
  • Single Sign-On: With SSO, admins can wield a greater degree of control over user access to the platform while also making it easier for everyone to securely access the data room
  • Audit trail/reports: Admins can access a history of all user activity within the data room, ensuring full transparency and accountability
  • No back-end access: Data hosted on a FirmRoom VDR can only be controlled by the VDR administrators. Not even FirmRoom has access to it
  • View-only permissions: Restrict access to confidential information and sensitive files. Users won’t be able to download or edit files where view-only is enabled.

Custom watermarks: To prevent users from saving sensitive content with screen captures, activate custom watermarks. This will create a separate watermark for each user featuring their own personal data.

Security Compliance:
  • SOC-2
  • ISO 27001
  • SEC
